Finally, here it is, my belated review about the L’Oréal x Balmain limited edition lipsticks collaboration. I had to wait really long until I can put my hands on one of these highly publicized lipsticks. Most of the 12 shades were sold out the moment they were lunched. I’m normally fan of more peachy and pink lip colors, but this time because there weren’t a lot of options left, I went out of my comfort zone and ordered the taupe brown color 902 Legend. Well, I just really wanted to try if the lipsticks are as good as all the raves about them.
Legend is a deep taupe brown edgy color, which will look gorgeous on voluminous lips, but it’s a bit too strong for me. The formula is soft matte, similar to the classic L’Oréal Color Riche Moist Matte lipsticks, but not as good and creamy as them. The L’Oréal x Balmain lipsticks have a sweet powdery scent, which reminds me of the scent of Lancôme lipsticks. Unfortunately, I’m not very impressed by their longevity. However, that wasn’t my biggest disappointment. While the quality of the lipsticks is ok, however lower than what we are normally used to from L’Oréal lipsticks, the packaging looks very cheap. I think the idea of having luxe faux-marble design is great, but the end result is very disappointing, simply because the material that is used is a very thin and flimsy plastic. I don’t know if it is just me, being very picky and paying to much attention to the details, but personally I had expected more from a collaboration between two very powerful beauty and fashion brands.
The price of the lipsticks is € 14.99, which is very high for the quality of the product that you get. Just imagine that for 4 extra euros you can get a MAC lipstick, which is out of this world! Or you can as well decide to save some money and get a cheaper lipstick with a beter quality like Essence or Kiko Cosmetics.
If you want to try the lipsticks yourself, some colors from the collaboration are still available in some webshops (like http://www.bol.com).
Generally, I like the color palette of the L’Oréal x Balmain lipsticks, the colors are super edgy and sassy. However, the quality of the lipsticks and especially the packaging is not up to the level of the brands.
Have you also tried the L’Oréal x Balmain lipsticks? I’m curious to hear your opinion.
